akarta – Hydrogen cars are poised to fill the streets of Australia’s major cities after Hyundai Motor Corporation reached a zero-emission fuel supply deal with a local manufacturer.
As quoted by Bisnis.com from Bloomberg today, Tuesday, August 11, 2020, hydrogen car manufacturer Hyundai Australia has signed a memorandum of understanding with Jemena Ltd. and Coregas to produce and supply hydrogen from solar and wind power to the Sydney hub.
The cooperation will begin in early 2021.
“The lack of critical refueling infrastructure is touted as an inhibition of hydrogen vehicle sales,” Frank Tudor, Managing Director of Jemena, said in a statement.
According to Frank, the agreement is an opportunity to show that renewable hydrogen gas can be immediately available to the vehicle and transportation sectors.
Hyundai’s Macquarie Park car showroom in Sydney is currently the only hydrogen refueling station in Australia. Another showroom is under construction in Canberra, and plans are being followed in Melbourne and Brisbane.
The Australian government is also working to build a hydrogen export industry over the next decade by leveraging the country’s natural advantages.
